Philadelphia, PA – Mayor Jim Kenney today endorsed Congressman Dwight Evans for re-election to the 3rd Congressional District.

“Dwight Evans served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for over 30 years. During that time, no one — on a cumulative basis — did more for the people of Philadelphia — than Dwight Evans” said Mayor Kenney.

“Dwight was a fierce advocate for our children and funding for our schools,” Mayor Kenney continued. “He championed the building and expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center — and the thousands of hotel, hospitality and construction industry jobs that were created.”

“Dwight Evans is a results-oriented and ideas-based lawmaker,” Mayor Kenney said. “He worked with me on expanding pre-K, opposed Republican efforts to dismantle ObamaCare and he’s pushed back against Trump’s effort to cut food stamps for some 400,000 needy city residents.”

“No one is better qualified, more experienced or more passionate and committed to helping people than Dwight Evans,” said Mayor Kenney. “I strongly endorse Dwight Evans for re-election to the U. S. Congress.”

“I’d like to thank the Mayor for his endorsement and in particular the personal relationship we have formed over the years while I was a state legislator and he was in city council,” said Dwight Evans. “I can’t think of a person more passionate about the city of Philadelphia.”

“It is our partnership that will make a difference for the residents of Philadelphia,” continued Dwight Evans. “Philadelphia needs assistance from Washington D.C. and the recently passed budget helps with additional Community Development Block Grant funds. This program allows for the expansion of store-front improvement programs, affordable housing development and job creation.”

“This Mayor has demonstrated in my view how you move this city forward through partnerships like the one we have together,” said Dwight Evans.

Mayor Kenney’s endorsement follows up on the one Congressman Evans received from Governor Tom Wolf on Friday.

Congressman Dwight Evans currently represents the 2nd Congressional District and will be running for re-election in the 3rd Congressional District as a result of the PA Supreme Court gerrymandering ruling. Congressman Evans sits on the Small Business and Agriculture committees.
